Our Learning
Spring Term 2018
During our science work we have been learning about the circulatory system. Year 6 were then challenged with the task of creating a game to showcase their knowledge. We had groups creating board games, TV-style game shows, ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire?’ style PowerPoint presentations and even a computer game based quiz, where we used our coding skills.
Puppet Making
In DT this term we have been making puppets. We first made initial designs based on the fairy tale, or mix of fairy tales, we wanted our puppet show to be about. We used paper mache to make the heads and developed our sewing skills to make the bodies out of fabric. Our performances to the children in KS1 were fantastic!
Class Assembly
This term we have had Class 13’s class assembly… and it was fantastic! They shared some of the fantastic work done so far this year, including learning about rain forests, crime and punishment through the ages, keeping ourselves healthy in PE, puppet shows in DT and some fantastic examples of writing from literacy – which included a performance of a real tear jerking song!
Well done year 6!
Autumn Term 2017
Year 6 went to Newcastle University to take part in a University Safari. Throughout the day we took part in different workshops such as story writing. We talked about what University can offer us for our future and the range of extra-curricular activities they offer. In the afternoon, we walked around the campus and visited different University buildings to find the answers to questions in the treasure hunt. There were around 15 teams and one of our teams won the challenge and received a box of chocolates to share.
Year 6 got off to a flying start this year with our Rain forest topic. We learned about rain forests around the world and compared the climates of them to our own. This gave us inspiration to write fantastic setting description of a fantasy forest and to create a set of instructions on ‘How to survive in the Rain forest.’ Furthermore, we studied indigenous rain forest animals and created 4 view artwork of some of our favourites.
We went on a trip to the Nissan factory in Washington and learnt all about how cars are made, we got to create our own production line using Lego and even got to see a robot arm draw a picture and write a message to Morgan! Over the coming weeks, we will take part in a University Safari at Newcastle University and the Safety Carousel run by the emergency services.
In ICT, we used ‘forced perspective’ to create images that manipulate how things look, in particular the size of objects. Have a look at some of our photos and see if you can decide how we did it.
Robinwood 2017
We were extremely impressed with the children in Year 6 who spent the weekend at Robinwood Outdoor Activity Centre. They had great fun, were extremely supportive of each other, they developed their teamwork skills as the weekend progressed and they were fantastic ambassadors for Shotley Bridge Primary School.
Thank you to all of the staff, Mr Davey, Mrs Dempsey, Miss Riseborough and Mr Vasarhelyi who gave up their weekend to accompany the children.
Below you will find a slideshow of photographs from the weekend.
