Our Summer Term trip to Durham Cathedral was a huge success. The children enjoyed experiencing being inside the cathedral and appreciating the wonderful architecture as well as dressing up in the robes of the clergy. Have a look at the photographs below.

Year 5 had a fantastic day learning about the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons from visitors from Durham University. We looked at the Lindisfarne Gospel and learnt all about the life of Anglo-Saxon monks by dressing up. As monks, Year 5 took a vow of silence (much to Miss Reid’s and Mrs Dempsey’s delight!) and went on a monk walk around the school. We also learnt to write our names in Latin and practiced using a quill. As part of our Viking learning, we explored different Viking artefacts which included helmets, swords and shields. Finally, we created Viking runes on wax paper!
A big ‘thank you’ to Ross and John from Durham University for providing us with an interesting, exciting day and “well done” to Year 5 for an excellent effort dressing up and making it such a brilliant day.
This term, Year 5 are learning to play the ukulele with a specialist musical teacher. So far class 11 have explored how to hold the instrument and practised strumming along to ‘My dog has fleas’.
