Spring Term 2019
Geography Fieldwork
We used 4-figure grid references on a map of the school to follow the clues to find letters. These letters made a mystery sentence. It was lots of fun! We also used a satellite map of Shotley Bridge to plan a walk. We then went on the walk we had planned, looking for Human and Physical features as we walked. Have a look at our slideshow below.
Autumn Term 2018
Year 3 went to The Baltic.
We worked with an artist in a studio doing portrait work. We used lots of different media to create a portfolio of work in different styles. Then we completed a bridges workshop in the gallery. We had to sketch some of the bridges on the river Tyne before making some bridges of our own using card.
We also had the chance to have a tour of the Baltic, looking at all the current exhibitions.
Following the visit, we had some superb comments from the staff at The Baltic.
“I would like to mention that the Bridges workshops were a joy to lead and the children from Shotley Bridge Primary were excellent in their creativity and engagement.”
We worked in groups of 3, using anything we could find in the outside areas to represent numbers on bar models. This was to help us add and subtract 2-digit numbers. Once inside, we worked in the hall using counters on the floor to represent numbers on bar model pyramids. This helped us to understand what each calculation looked like, before working in our classroom using numbers.
Year 3 worked in the woodland, den building. We worked in teams to try and build the biggest, weather-proof den we could, a lot like the houses the Stone Age people would have built.
In English we have been practising using particular grammar to write instructions . Later in the week we plan to write instructions for building a den, using everything we have learnt today.
In History, as part of the Stone Age Topic, Year Three have been creating cave paintings on the playground. Have a look at the photographs.
Time Capsule
Year Three children wrote themselves a letter to be opened at the end of Year 3. We measured our heights using string and we recorded data relating to our own measurements. These were buried and will be opened in July 2019 on our last day in Y3.
