Autumn 2016
Our trip to Beamish Museum
1st December 2016
As part of the ‘Victorians’ focus as part in our ‘Horrible Histories’ topic, both Year 2 classes went on a trip to Beamish. We experienced a Victorian lesson in the Victorian classroom, where we met a very strict teacher. We had to sit in rows of boys and girls, with our arms folded. We learnt about the three R’s: Reading, Writing and Arithmetic and had a short lesson in each of these. We now realise how different school in the Victorian times was compared to school today. I think most of us agree that we much prefer school-life in 2016.We explored the Victorian town, where we looked at houses, a bank, a sweet shop, a garage and a dentist. We all learnt lots of information about what life was like in the Victorian times. Before we went home, we all had a ride on the double decker tram, which we all really enjoyed. We all had a fantastic day at Beamish.

We are having great fun in Year 2 this year.  Mrs Dipper is teaching in Class 5 with Mrs Humble and Miss Blythe is teaching in Class 6 with Mrs Byrne.

Parents and carers can view or download our latest Curriculum Plans on our website.

This term our topic is Horrible Histories. We have been learning about castles, The Plague, The Gunpowder Plot, The Great Fire of London and we are currently learning about ‘The Victorians’

The Great Fire of London:

We created a water chain, just like the water chain that people in the past made to try and put out the fire. We realised how hard and tiring it would have been, especially as the people had to do it for 5 full days.

We looked at colour mixing and created ‘Great Fire of London’ silhouettes. Can you spot some of the London landmarks that we have created?

We designed and made Tudor houses using cardboard boxes. We learnt that Tudor houses were made from wood and were painted black and white.

Class 5 children all made Tudor houses too, spot the different designs below.

In 2015 2016 Adam Bushnell came to visit.
